Year 11 and 12 students are being offered an exciting and unique opportunity to design and project manage the renovation of their sixth form facilities. Students have carte-blanche in a competition in which an individual or a group of students will have their designs turned into reality.
The facilities to undergo renovation include; an independent study centre, research facility and a newly developed café. The project will provide an opportunity for future 6th form students at Hillview to study and relax within areas that have been designed and created specifically for them by the experts, student themselves. The closing date for the competition is 18 March 2016, with renovations scheduled to begin in summer 2016.
Students will not only be creating the design but also fundraising and project managing the renovation, giving them the opportunity to experience and be part of a real-life design/business project. This is a unique chance for their own personal development which will help to distinguish them from other students applying to universities and for jobs in the future. Any external students who intend to study at Hillview Sixth Form in September and would like to take part in the competition, are able to request an information pack from the main school office.
Miss Owen, Director of Sixth Form said “This is a fantastic opportunity for students to not only exercise their creativity and develop their project management skills, but to also make a positive contribution to students’ Sixth Form experience both now and in years to come. I cannot wait to see students’ designs!”.
Mrs Burkett, Headteacher commented “ I am really excited to be able to launch this project. We have a large successful sixth form and it is vital that our students have access to the right facilities to support their KS5 studies and progression onto university or the workplace. We hope to be starting the first phase of renovations this summer, so our 2016 intake can take full advantage of the new facilities”.
The winning design will be announced on 22 April 2016.
