What I like about working for Hillview School for Girls is that every student has the opportunity to pursue a wide range of extra-curricular activities which relate to their own interests. The community system and vertically tutored mentor groups really help create a sense of togetherness, and allow students to develop friendships across classes and year groups.
The students are highly motivated, and are always prepared to try new things. Since I first began my training, the staff at Hillview have all been incredibly friendly and supportive. The school itself places a clear emphasis on providing training to allow teachers to continue their professional development, and this particularly appealed to me as an NQT.
Hillview is an excellent school. On a day-to-day basis the atmosphere is calm, allowing the students to work well yet also vibrant with so many exciting events happening all year round. We have an outstanding Performing Arts faculty and facilities and the school is committed to embedding creativity around the whole school.
I have been at Hillview since 2010, having worked as a chef for over 25 years in various organisations. I do a lot of voluntary work with under-privileged children outside of work and I find that being amongst the youngsters on a day-to-day basis in school is fantastic! The students are fab and we have a great laugh about my ‘old-fashioned’ music mixes which sound out in the canteen during the day. It’s a great place to be working.
