Yesterday four students travelled to Speaker’s House, by invitation from Penny Mordaunt, State Secretary for International Development, to attend the above Reception, accompanied by Mrs Bishop.
Catherine Coulstock, Ellie Chatfield, Holly Barker and Lucy Penfold met Lord Ahmed and Lord Ray Collins of Highbury (General Secretary of the Labour party). Lord Ahmed in his speech at the Reception remarked on numerous occasions about how impressed he was with our students’ campaigning against on-line racist and sexist abuse.
Our local MP, Tom Tugendhat, also met with our students, having a very informed conversation about Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe. Catherine Coulstock had an enlightened conversation with Penny Mordaunt about technological advances in growing food around the world, including the use of satellites to identify diseased crops.
The students also managed to see Keir Starmer, Jacob Rees-Mogg, plus a debate in the House of Commons.
An amazing and fantastic day!
