6th Form Shakespeare Day
Year 12 and Year 13 Literature students attended a Shakespeare Study Day hosted by Tonbridge School. Students listened to two lectures: one on the context of 'Shakespeare's Audience' and the growth of theatre as a popular form of entertainment in Elizabethan and Jacobean London, and one on the topic of 'Natural and Unnatural Bodies' in three of Shakespeare's tragedies. After the lectures, students experienced a workshop-style performance of key scenes from a range of examination texts. The day ended with a seminar on Othello, which offered students the opportunity to hear alternative viewpoints and theories and thereby enrich their own interpretation of this key examination text. Our Year 12 and Year 13 students represented Hillview impeccably at this event, demonstrating active listening and engagement with the speakers, performers and seminar leaders, and making the most of the opportunity to broaden their understanding by asking interesting and insightful questions of the speakers.
